The year of Jubilee: (Read Leviticus 25:8-13)

Introduction:

Jubilee was the year of redemption and restoration when those who were poor or in bondage were set free, and restored to their rightful inheritance.

Isaiah had Jubilee in view when he pinned the following prophecy of Christ:

Is. 61:1  The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Like Jubilee:

1.  The year of Jubilee came every seven times seven years, signifying the completeness or the fullness of time; Jesus came in the fulness of time:

Hebrews 9:26  For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

1 Peter 1:20  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you

Galatians 4:4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

It was the time of spiritual rejuvenation of the land; a time when Israel was a spiritual wasteland.

7.  Jubilee was to be an especially holy time; the first advent of Christ was the most holy and solemn time this world has ever known.
